"One of My Greatest Accomplishments"

Mauricio Barreiro's Story

My story occurred some 24 years ago when I was a younger man. I had never used GBMC’s services before, but I was about to entrust it with one of my greatest accomplishments: my family's legacy. No one could have known at the time that there would be no more Barreiros in the family tree.

Through the fine assistance of GBMC, through the hard work of Dr. Waitz, a young man was born in 1990. He was purple, loud and squishy. He longed for his mother's warmth and his father's voice. He grew to become one of my everythings.

Born healthy, and well taken care of by GBMC, this young man progressed through many phases over the years: Chapel Hill Elementary School, Perry Hall High School, Calvert Hall High School, four National Youth Soccer Championships and many, many awards. Strong academics earned him a full academic scholarship to the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania, where he competed twice in the NCAA soccer tourney and won an Ivy League Championship.

Not one to dwell on past accomplishments, he was able to earn a draft choice by New York Red Bull and a professional contract with the Puerto Rico Islanders, the finest Caribbean pro soccer team. He even became bilingual within the Hispanic community.

Having tested his mettle at Wharton Business School, he proceeded to earn a spot on a coveted multi-housing commercial real estate team at Marcus & Millichap, the country's finest commercial real estate firm in Bethesda, Maryland.

Young, strong, smart and team-oriented, this young man serves his community fighting for fair housing and strong neighborhoods, developing properties that are within legal standards and community guidelines.

I introduce you again to Christian Andres Barreiro, a son of favorite son!
