"What GBMC Has Meant to Me"

Brittany Garvey's Story

When I found out I was pregnant, my first thought was that I needed an obstetrician. I called my best friend and she recommended Dr. Allen. I set up an appointment and immediately fell in love with her.

Dr. Allen is super sweet and exactly what I was looking for in a physician. Plus, her staff is equally as amazing. My fiancé, Shane, met her when we were able to hear our daughter's heartbeat for the first time and he really liked her as well. I had a very normal and easy pregnancy and everything was going as expected.

That was until I was six months along and my fiancé unexpectedly passed away. I lost the love of my life while pregnant and I was a mess. Dr. Allen was right there with support, comfort, an ear to listen and a shoulder to cry on. She always told me she was on my team and she never faltered on that promise.

On September 19, 2013, I went into labor and on September 20, 2013, Olivia was born. Dr. Merryman was on call and she was the one to deliver Olivia. She handled the situation perfectly as my daughter was born via emergency C-section.

When we were taken to our room after the birth, Olivia and I met with our nurses and technicians on shift. When Dr. Allen came on shift, we met with her and she made sure everyone was aware of my sensitive situation.

There are no words to describe how I feel about the women I encountered. They were sympathetic, understanding, kind, passionate, sensitive and just all-around incredible. They made sure I was taken care of, and that my daughter and family were as well.

To make matters more difficult for me, September 23rd was Shane’s birthday and the first without him to celebrate. I remember I had Taylor as a nurse and she took extra special care of me that day. For that I am eternally grateful.

I cannot say enough great things about the people of Labor and Delivery and of Dr. Allen and her staff. Thank you for taking care of me and the most precious gift I could ever receive, my daughter Olivia.
